WE ARE WHAT WE REPEATEDLY DO. EXCELLENCE THEN IS A HABIT.
Habit = a settled, regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up.
The WSA Way aims to TRANSFORM through a "growth mindset".
The process of transformation is usually slow, incremental, non-linear, and process-oriented.
While setting the tone for this environment to nurture our desired outcomes requires a the capacity to flex, adapt, and pivot, there is still space for structuring behavior.
One of the tools we can use for helping to create a great environment for transformation and growth is the utilization of good habits.
Habits SIGNALWHAT is important. Habitual behavior activates a place in our brain, providing the visual imagery and wiring of WHO we want to be, which helps develop the WHY.
AN EXAMPLE
LAST HAND ON THE FIELD
LAST HAND ON THE FIELD - an example of a Habit that SIGNALS
Following each match, every WSA athlete (and staff) will acknowledge 3 people with gratitude (core value) for their role in providing the opportunity of the gift of the game we just played:
1. The Opponent 2. The Referee 3. The Supporters
This "culture builder" is meant to become a "habit" which WHEN practiced following each match, regardless of the outcome, will SIGNAL who we want to become, and remind us of who we are. It is an actionable behavior that has the power to build culture, develop mindset, and unite vision.
It IS the WSA Way. Win. Lose. Or Draw. The "last hand on the field" is executed.
The "habit" signals who we are striving to be.
Once this habit is built, and is commonplace for our team, the behavior, will help wire our processing of competition, perspective of our goals, even in amid the challenges that competition, performance, response to officiating, response to success and failure provides.
