COMPETITIVE CLUB SOCCER

EACH ATHLETE POSSESSES A UNIQUE DEVELOPMENTAL TIMELINE

The timeline is not a regular upward, or downward curve, but rather full of "peaks and valleys".
The parent advocate is called to understand & support their athlete in this complicated & miraculous journey.

THE PHASES OF DEVELOPMENT

It is important for any advocate for an athlete to understand the "phase of development" the athlete currently resides in.

Each phase is hallmarked by different objectives and outcomes.  The WSA Way believes that these phases synchronize with the personal and human development trends and science of the person.  For example, the "Acquire" phase of ages approximately 9-12, is when the brain is most ready to learn coordinated muscle movements.  The "Compete" phase of ages 13-15, is when the person's psychosocial maturity is best ready to manage the emotional requirements of success, failure, and consequences of both.  The "Perform & Win" phase is occurs when mastery of previous phases has formed a solid foundation of self awareness, perspective, emotional and athletic intelligence.

THE PLAYER EXPERIENCE PILLARS

The WSA Way focuses on developing a premium "Player Experience".   When assessing the current "player experience" parents are encouraged to reference The WSA Way "Player Experience Pillars":
RELATIONSHIPS
DEVELOPMENT
COMPETITIION
EXPOSURE

Referencing this paradigm helps parents (and all athlete advocates) best create benchmarks, and appraisals for the athlete's current playing experience.   Proper questions and considerations can be assessed of the player's current playing environment.

THE PLAYER NEAR, MID & LONG TERM PARADIGM

Every athlete, at any and every stage of their athletic career or progression, should have a near-term, mid-term, and long term plan.  This perspective helps the athlete and athlete advocates create and sustain tangible objectives, benchmarks, and outcomes.

Below is an example of the view of a plan structure for a 2013 BirthYear team in the U10 Spring Season.  The plan structure detail would include tangible objectives, plans, and processes for the NEAR TERM, MID TERM, and LONG TERM.

This type of planning ensures that the "near term" planning is always fitting into a "long term" picture.  This protects ourselves from impatience, seeking immediate results, that are not considerate of developmental outcomes that require time, patience, and process.
