CORNER KICK DEFENDING SHORT CORNER USING THE "9"
The #9 is responsible to be alert to all "short" corners and to communicate when a short corner design seems apparent. Likewise the #9 will join at a "half to 3/4 in" rate, and become "full in" once the corner kick is initiated.
There is not usually a need to create a 2v2 prior to the CK initiating, and doing so will allow the opponent to play chess with your players. If you send "2 full in" players to a short corner, you have removed one box defender, and one outball player - which is a tactical win for the opponent. When the opponent shows "2" at the corner area, the team should send "1 full in" and 1 player "1/2 in".
The KEY PLAYER is the #9. The GK and other box defenders can be allowed to retain focus on the "box", while the "9" is the coach, communicator, and spy for the "short corner" design.
